Life insurance claims

We know that making a claim can be stressful, especially during tough times. That's why we make the process as stress-free and quick as possible.

Information needed to make a claim

When making a claim provide the:

  • policy number
  • name of the policyholder
  • contact details for your GP or Medical Consultant (only needed for terminal illness or critical illness claims)

If the policyholder has died provide:

  • cause, date and place of death (if known)
  • who you are and your relationship with the policyholder
  • who is the legal next of kin (if known)

Contact details to make a claim

If you bought a policy before 27 November 2023, use the Royal London contact details.

What happens next

  1. Once your claim is registered, you will be kept informed throughout the process
  2. The claim will be assessed, which may include contacting the GP, coroner, or any other involved parties for additional information
  3. After receiving the necessary information, claims are usually paid within 3 working days

Claims cannot be paid until all required information is received. You will be informed about the specific documents needed, which may include:

  • proof of the policyholder's death, such as the original death certificate
  • the original birth certificate of the policyholder
  • evidence of a change of name, for example, a marriage or civil partnership certificate
  • medical evidence, which may include full medical records

Depending on the claim, other documents might be required. However, only necessary documents will be requested, such as the policyholder's will or other legal documents.
